Civil rights leader John Lewis (1940-2020)

18th Jul 2020

“It doesn't matter whether we're Black or white, Latino or Asian American or Native American, whether we're gay or straight – we're one people, we're one family.” -- John Lewis, on the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington

U.S. Rep. John Lewis has been called "the conscience of the U.S. Congress," "a genuine American hero and moral leader who commands widespread respect in the chamber," and "one of the most courageous persons the Civil Rights Movement ever produced."

Yet, at his passing at age 80, no words of praise seem to rise to the level of appreciation our nation forever will have for the blood, sweat and tears literally shed by this monument of a man who personified a movement.

A moral compass for an off-course nation, Lewis was there for every step of the march for voting rights, equity and social justice. With a lifetime of commitment, Lewis made it possible for many others to follow in his footprints, as a new generation takes up the torch and leads the way to a more enlightened and liberated America.

May John Lewis rest in peace, for as a nation today and tomorow we march forward.
